Canada's Top Ten

CANADA'S TOP TEN FILMS OF ALL TIME

In 1984, to mark the introduction of the Perspective Canada program and launch an extensive retrospective on Canadian cinema, the Toronto International Film Festival Group asked critics, programmers and industry professionals to compile a list of their Top 10 Canadian films. The results were edifying, out–lining—perhaps for the first time—a specifically Canadian canon, one that focused as much or more on films from the 1960s and 1970s.

The 1993 poll, which marked the 10th anniversary of Perspective Canada, suggested a kind of consensus, with six films reappearing on the list.

The 2004 poll follows similar lines and suggests an even greater consensus with six of the films from the 1993 poll reappearing.
