SYNOPSIS: “A refreshing take on an overused theme. . . . [a] beautifully shot ode to country life,
limitations and all” (Ken Eisner, Variety). A SIMPLE CURVE is a thoroughly delightful film with nary a misstep in storytelling nor characterization. Aubrey
Nealon’s first feature tells the tale of twenty-seven-year-old Caleb’s quiet revolt
against his idealistic father, Jim (Michael Hogan), whose small carpentry shop is
struggling to stay in business. Matthew, an old friend of Jim’s, arrives on the scene
exhibiting an aggressive pragmatism that Jim lacks. As he navigates his way through
the opposing visions of Jim and Matthew, Caleb senses that the time to forge his own
path has arrived. Kris Lemche is completely charming in the lead role as the conflicted
but confident Caleb, who realizes that finding his own paradise may require
leaving this one behind, while Michael Hogan embodies the relentless high-mindedness
of Jim with aplomb.

"With ample amounts of honesty, humour, and compassion writer/director Aubrey Nealon makes known that on his first time out he’s well on his way to becoming a master craftsman. A film that puts a smile on your face, A SIMPLE CURVE is both a gentle story of a son trying to find his own path, and a curious character study that pits man against his environment, in this case the magnificent Kootenay Rockies. Wonderful performances by Kris Lemche, Michael Hogan, and Matt Craven."
